Porto di Candás

The port of Candás has undergone many successive works, reconstructions and extensions, mainly since the 18th century. In the early 1950s, one of the last works undertaken in the port was carried out, consisting of the extension of the seawall and as a result of this extension, the currents were changed causing a large amount of sand to float into the port, gradually losing the draft of the Port until it reached its current state. Here you can see “two stone boats,” which were brought from England when they lost their usefulness in the early 1930s. One of them, called the GRETEFORCE, was used as a breakwater and the other the GRATEFARM, became part of the pier itself.
