The history of this magnificent port began in the 1960s when, as mayor Enrique Bolín proposed the construction of an infrastructure that would allow Benalmádena to offer quality tourist attractions while improving this municipality’s historical relationship with the sea Initially, the idea of building this port was met with disbelief by the innovative and grandiose idea of the idea even though the municipal drive succeeded in overcoming the obstacles that appeared and little by little, and without much vicissitude, what is now one of the most attractive sports, recreational and leisure environments on the entire Mediterranean coast was built. The Puerto Deportivo de Benalmádena was created as an administrative concession granted by the Ministry of Public Works and Urban Planning to the Hon. Municipality of Benalmádena, with the agreement of the Council of Ministers, for the construction and operation of a basic or winter sports port on the beach of Fuente de la Salud.
Work began on November 12, 1972, after several phases of construction, concluded with the inauguration of the port on October 9, 1982. The port has been directed since its inception by the Hon. Municipality of Benalmádena although, to improve and rationalize its management, a Municipal Corporation was created in July 1996 and with the agreement of the Plenary.
