In 1905 a group of local middle-class youth created the Cartagena Regatta Club, installed two wooden huts on Batel beach and acquired several boats. Shortly thereafter, in 1907 to coincide with the Cartagena visit of King Alfonso XIII, they built the new house on the pier and got the monarch accepted the honorary presidency of the club, being authorized to use the royal crown on their badge and official document. In August of that year the first regatta with sails and rowing boats was organized, and in mid-1910 construction began on a new and elegant building that was inaugurated on 14, 1912. Since then the Real Club de regate de Cartagena continued its journey, with very bright stages becoming a social and sports reference. In 1985, due to the poor state of the building’s structure, it was declared a ruin and soon closed, moving the Club to a new location next to the Marina and equipped with modern facilities.
