Porto di Ardenza

The marina of Ardenza, also known as Moletto d’Ardenza, is located on the outskirts of Livorno and is named after the neighborhood of the same name. It was built at the behest of Fascist hierarch Costanzo Ciano, which is why the dock has suffered the rhetorical flavor of that era. The management of the marina is currently the responsibility of the Circolo della Pesca e della Nautica “Emilio Mugnai” of Ardenza..

The structure of the Port of Ardenza

The anchorage consists of two docks with 5 comb jetties, 2 of 60m and 3 of 40m, which can accommodate 266 boats with a maximum length of 10m. Of these berths, only a small part is reserved for boats in transit that can temporarily be docked in the places vacated by members.

How to enter ports

The Ardenza landing is characterized by very shallow waters, less than 1.80m and some outcropping rocks that can create difficulties, so it is best to enter the ports close to the breakwater where there is a draft of at least 2m. Access is not possible with winds from quadrant III and with libeccio.

Services:

  • fontanelle
  • 14 hose outlets (water supply subject to restriction from h. 8.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.)
  • 3 power outlets
  • dock lighting
  • slipway for bulbless boats up to 10 t
  • fixed crane up to 800 kg
  • food supply 100 m from the marina
  • car parking

The fuel station is located about 500 m from the Ardenza ports.

Historical curiosities

Along the balustrade dividing the Ardenza marina from the seafront promenade are several bronze groups depicting dolphins, which were placed in their current location during the 1900s. In 2008, however, the sculptures were removed as they were in need of maintenance and not yet reinstalled due to high restoration costs. The four groups of dolphins were executed according to the design of architect Carlo Reishammer in the first half of the 19th century to adorn the vanished Porta a Mare.

The beach

Next to the port of Ardenza is a free beach with pebbles and a small sandy part, very convenient to reach from the town. Access is allowed to everyone (including dogs), and it is entered either by stairs or by ramp and is therefore also accessible to the disabled. In some areas of the beach you can find rocks at the water’s edge or hidden that you have to pay attention to, and a freshwater pump is available. The beach is very popular not only because it is located near the port of Ardenza but also because it is the closest to Livorno.
