Porto Vecchio in Porto Ercole overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea and is located between Punta dello Scoglione and Santa Barbara Pier, which reaches 315 meters in length and is equipped with the mooring rings. The Porto Vecchio is located in the central part of the most modern area of Porto Ercole.
To the north of the port rise two promontories on which the old guard fortifications of Fort Filippo and Fort Santa Caterina stand out; on the southern side is another promontory, on which the Aldobrandesque fortress was built in ancient times to protect the town and port.
The Porto Ercole area is rich in history: Porto Vecchio was a strategic port of fundamental importance as early as the Middle Ages, first for the Aldobrandeschi family and then for the Republic of Siena. When Porto Ercole was annexed to the Presidi State during the sixteenth century, the Spanish further improved the structure of the port and built new guard posts on the surrounding heights.
The port consists of three piers: Molo Sanitร , Molo delle Grotte and Moletto delle Grotte. The piers are connected to each other by a quay, the Andrea Doria waterfront, from which 5 floating docks are detached, under private concession. These piers offer a total of 825 berths, including 2 exclusively reserved for transit.
The maximum length allowed for boats is 24 meters when mooring at docks and 14 meters for boats in transit.
The seabed, muddy in the center and rocky near the breakwater, varies greatly in depth: in the basin it ranges from a minimum of 1.5 meters to a maximum of 7 meters, while at the dock the depth is between 0.5 and 3 meters.
Mechanical equipment within the port includes a fixed crane of up to 5 tons and a 25-ton mobile crane. There is also a slipway of up to 500 tons and a slipway. Electrical and electronic repairs, engine repairs, and repairs of wooden or fiberglass hulls are carried out within the port. Sails are also repaired.
The fuel station is located at the quay and dispenses gasoline, diesel and mixture. It is open only during the summer season from 07:30 to 19:30. There are 180 sockets available to use electricity and 10 hose sockets. Water supply is available only from h 18.00 to 22.00.
The starboard side and the head of the Caves Pier are reserved exclusively for the Coast Guard.
Boat servicing, boat guarding and garbage collection services are provided.
