Darsena San Giorgio

Darsena San Giorgio is a private tourist dock located on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, overlooking the San Marco Basin.

The Darsena, also known as Darsena Croze , can be reached by going up the Orphan Canal until reaching dinazi at St. Mark’s Basin.
The landing is made visible during the day by the presence of two stone lanterns.

This dock is one of two Venetian Sailing Company headquarters and is the largest. Entirely renovated a decade ago, Darsena Croze offers water and electricity supply columns.
For toilets and bathrooms, one must instead turn to the smaller dock, also belonging to the Sailing Company, 300 meters away.

The landing is well sheltered from the sirocco and grecale winds (and all winds in general) but it “suffers” a bit from the continuous passage of ships-many large ones-in St. Mark’s Basin, which create significant swell and noise that can become annoying.

In fact, in case of transit of large boats in the basin, access to the dock is not recommended.
The access channel to the dock (like other access channels to landings in the Venetian Lagoon) is not marked by any light indicators, so access at night and on foggy days may prove complicated.
The dock is also the starting point of many sailing regattas.

The minor dock, also known as the Green Dock, on the other hand, looks toward the island of San Servolo.
It consists of two stone docks and is provided with moorings at the buoy.

It is much quieter and quieter than its bigger sister, but it offers only 22 berths. In addition, it is almost never possible to find staff present in the dock (except on summer weekends, during daylight hours), and to gain access one must always contact the larger dock. Even here it is possible to find a good ridge here any kind of wind.
The docks can only be accessed from the west (entry from the east is prohibited).

The island of San Giorgio offers ample green spaces in which to take relaxing breaks enjoying the coolness of the trees and several points of architectural and historical interest, such as the basilica of San Giorgio Maggiore (designed by Andrea Palladio) and the Benedictine monastery, now used as a foundation.

The Darsena San Giorgio provides an excellent landing point where one can leave one’s boat and take a vaporetto that will arrive in the San Marco area within a very short time.
