Un paradiso distrutto, spazzato via da un uragano, che cerca almeno di tornare alla normalitร . L’isola caraibica di Saint Martin รจ stata la piรน colpita da Irma, la tempesta tropicale che ha sconvolto l’America centro-settentrionale a inizio settembre.
Parole e gestiย di solidarietร sono arrivati da diversi personaggi famosi e settori: nella nautica il Monaco Yacht Show ha deciso di metterci il nome, lanciando un appello per aiutare la popolazione locale a rilanciare l’economia.
Il messaggio รจ rivolto ai grandi cantieri e a tutti gli armatori: Saint Martin ha bisogno che gli yacht tornino nei porti. L’industria nautica infatti รจ fondamentale per gli abitanti, che fanno del turismo l’attrazione principale dell’isola.
Naturalmente puรฒ essere molto prezioso anche un contributo in termini economici, secondo le modalitร indicate sul sito di K1 Britannia Foundation, l’associazione che si รจ occupata fin dall’inizio di prestare soccorso agli abitanti di Saint Martin.
L’uragano Irma infatti ha danneggiato piรน del 90% degli edifici dell’isola caraibica, lasciando un’altissima percentuale di senzatetto e disoccupati. I volontari della fondazione sono stati operativi appena le condizioni meteorologiche lo hanno reso possibile.ย ร iniziata quindi la lunga fase di ricerca dei sopravvissuti scavando tra le macerie, portando conforto ai superstiti e distribuendo insieme alla Marina olandese cibo e acqua arrivati dal porto.
Circa un mese dopo, l’isola di Saint Martin sta proseguendo il suo lento percorso di ripresa. La ricostruzione degli edifici e delle infrastrutture procede con l’aiuto di associazioni umanitarie, ma il pericolo รจ perdere la stagione migliore per il turismo. Un danno economico che un Paese caraibico non si puรฒ permettere.
La proprietaria del Palapa Marina e segretaria dell’associazione dei commerci marittimi Valeska Luckert spiega la situazione: “L’industria nautica ha riportato numerosi danni durante l’uragano Irma, e sta facendo il suo meglio per prepararsi alla stagione in arrivo. I marina stanno lavorando insieme per riparare i pontili e pulire tutti i detriti che potrebbero esserci sotto il livello dell’acqua, per un passaggio libero delle imbarcazioni. Diversi porti hanno giร annunciato che saranno aperti e funzionali dal 1 novembre 2017. Numerose spiagge e luoghi di attrazione turistica sono giร operativi”.
Piรน difficile fare un programma preciso sul futuro: “I membri delle associazioni marine stanno lavorando duramente per pulire e ricostruire tutto il piรน velocemente possibile. L’isola non tornerร subito a pieno servizio, ci vorrร del tempo. Ma siamo fiduciosi che presto avremo una Saint Martin ancora piรน forte. Speriamo che l’industria nautica, che ci dร sempre il suo supporto, continuerร a farlo visitando la nostra splendida isola durante questo difficile periodo di ricostruzione. Abbiamo bisogno che tornino le barche per riprenderci”.
