E’ sabato 20 maggio e siamo a Ventura Harbour, inย California, quando unaย giovane megattera, la cui lunghezza รจ stata stimata fra i 9 ed gli 11 metri, viene avvistata da una coppia di diportisti all’interno del proprio marina.

Rapido l’intervento della Guardia Costiera che, purtroppo senza successo, ha cercato di attirare fuori dal porto la balena con segnali acustici. La balena รจ rimasta infatti intrappolata per due interi giorni all’interno delle acque confinate, attirando una folla di migliaia di curiosi, accorsi al diffondersi della notizia.

Malgrado fosse bellissimo vedere da vicino questo splendido mammifero cosรฌ da vicino il sentimento che le persone, nelle varie interviste hanno riportato, era di una profonda tristezza nel vedere intrappolato l’animale che, chiaramente faceva una grande fatica a muoversi in acque cosรฌ ristrette.

Dopo ore ed ore di continui tentativi รจ stata presa la decisione di chiudere completamente il porto al traffico ed alla folla per cercare di lasciare piรน tranquilla la balena, nella speranza che trovasse da sola la via d’uscita.

La Guardia Costiera stabilisce quindi un perimetro entro il quale nessuno possa entrare e lascia all’ingresso del porto due segnalatori acustici nella speranza che possano aiutare la balena a trovare la via d’uscita.
